South Ossetia accuses Georgia of building frontier fortifications
Sources in South Ossetia assert that Georgia is hurriedly erecting fortifications in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone. The South-Ossetian part of the MCC (Mixed Control Commission) appeals to the peacekeepers and the OSCE to register these violations.
"For two days already Georgian militaries are engaged in improving the fortifications near the village of Ergeneti. The construction is fast and causes fears in the Ossetian party. The Mixed Peacekeeping Forces (MPKF) deployed in the conflict zone have been notified about these events," the "Caucasian Knot" was told at the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the South-Ossetian part of the MCC, from June 17 on armed units of Georgia have been erecting a major fortification object in the vicinity of Ergeneti village, including entrenchments some 20 meters long.
Boris Chochiev, co-chairman of the MCC from South Ossetia, demands an immediate joint monitoring action by the MKPF and OSCE, emphasizing that the actions of the Georgian party are a roughest violation of previously signed agreements.
