Abkhazian creative associations demand to make USA responsible for supporting Georgia

Creative unions of Abkhazia believe that the USA, as the country that rendered permanent military aid to Georgia, cannot further act as intermediaries in settling conflicts, and should bear political and legal responsibility for the consequences of its policy.

This is the topic of the appeal of representatives of various creative associations addressed to the following Secretaries General: of the United Nations - Ban Ki-Moon, of the OSCE - Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, of the UNESCO - Koichiro Matsuura, and to the international journalistic community, President of the International PEN Club Jiri Grusa and the Culture Fund of Russia.

In the opinion of the authors of the appeal, "attempts of American and some European politicians to protect and shelter again Georgian military criminals headed by Mikhail Saakashvili are causing reasonable indignation."

"The tragic events in South Ossetia on August 7-12, 2008, have deeply disturbed the whole world. A huge damage has been caused to the genetic pool of the Ossetian nation, which had been earlier attacked by Georgia more than once. The social and economic infrastructure of the Republic of South Ossetia is destroyed; the objects that ensured its survival are ruined. All these scandalous facts are qualified by the international law as genocide," the appeal runs.

The creative associations of Abkhazia have reminded the world community "of the war crimes committed by Georgian occupational troops in Abkhazia in 1992-1993, which resulted loss of thousands peaceful citizens and essential material damage suffered by the country."

The document was signed by the Cultural Fund "Abkhazia - North Caucasus", Guild of Journalists and Publicists "Freedom and Will", Cultural Fund of the Republic of Abkhazia, D. I. Gulia Abkhazian Institute of Humanitarian Studies, Union of Writers of Abkhazia, Association of Writers of Abkhazia, S. Chanba Abkhazian State Drama Theatre, and Union of Artists of the Republic of Abkhazia.
