President of Turkey Abdullah Gul has invited his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sarkisyan to come to watch the football match of the two countries to be held in Turkey. Mr Sarkisyan has accepted the invitation.

Mr Gul has arrived today to Yerevan on invitation of the Armenian President to be present at the football match of the national teams of Armenia and Turkey in the qualification round for the 2010 World Cup. The response match will take place on October 14, 2009.

Serzh Sarkisyan has expressed his satisfaction with the readiness and desire of Turkey to set up stability and peace in the region. "I highly praise the decision of President of Turkey to be positive towards my invitation," he said.

In his turn, President Gul has stated that in the course of the meeting they discussed the Turkish initiative to transform the Caucasus into the centre of stability and cooperation, the "News-Armenia" Agency reports.

"We have expressed political will to set up atmosphere for settling the problems existing between Armenia and Turkey. I hope that this visit will give us great opportunities," said Mr Gul.

The arrival of the Turkish leader to Yerevan became a pretext for a many-thousand-strong march in memory of the victims of the Armenians' genocide in Ottoman Turkey. The action was organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation "Dashnaktsutyun".
