Kokoity asserts liquidation of consequences of humanitarian catastrophe in South Ossetia

The consequences of the humanitarian catastrophe in South Ossetia have been liquidated, President Eduard Kokoity reported at the meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on September 11 in Sochi.

"All the consequences of the humanitarian catastrophe in South Ossetia have been actually eliminated," said Mr Kokoity, having thanked, on behalf of the people of his republic, the Russian leadership "for timely actions to save the small South-Ossetian nation from complete eradication."

President Kokoity has especially valued the role of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies, whose actions "have actually remedied the situation". As he said, the paramount problem today is restoration of the economy and infrastructure of republic, the ITAR-TASS reports.

Sergey Shoigu, head of the Ministry for Emergencies of Russia, had declared earlier that the consequences of the humanitarian catastrophe in South Ossetia will be eliminated by September 15; then, the republic will launch the epoch of huge construction, restoration of infrastructure and peaceful creative activities.

On September 11, Vladimir Markin, official representative of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of Russia, has reported that over 4400 persons are recognized to be victims as a result of the August aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia.

"At the moment, a total of 4434 persons have been recognized as victims and interrogated, including 160 militaries, who had suffered the actual physical, property and moral damage by the criminal acts of the Georgian party," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Mr Markin as saying.
