In Georgia, parliamentary opposition insists on constitutional reform

Today, at a meeting with Peter Semnebi, Special Representative of the European Union in the countries of Southern Caucasus, the members of the Georgian parliamentary opposition have stated the need of a fundamental constitutional reform to be undertaken in the country with the aim to restrict the powers of the president in favour of the parliament.

MP Guram Chakhvadze from the National-Democratic Party said that at today's meeting he presented the stand of his Party that such reform is a must, as the "Georgia Online" Agency reports.

The Christian-Democrat Party (CDP) - the leading party of the parliamentary minority - also calls for this sort of constitutional changes.

"Our proposal is to bring the new constitutional model to the referendum, appoint parliamentary elections under new constitutional terms and entrust the new Parliament to elect President," Levan Vepkhvadze, vice-speaker of the Parliament and CDP's spokesman, said to the "Civil.Ge".

Earlier it was reported that at examining the body Asad Gadirov recognized his son, and the investigatory group allowed to give Fardy Gadirov's body out to his family.
