Ombudsman of Armenia blames General Prosecutor's Office for prosecuting witnesses

Ombudsman of Armenia Armen Arutyunyan has put responsibility on the State Office of Public Prosecutor for incessant violence and prosecution by law enforcement bodies of witnesses on the case about the events on March 1, 2008.

Mr Arutyunyan has expressed his regret of the fact that until now he received no response to his statements and numerous appeals to law enforcement bodies about use of violence against witnesses.

"My statements are addressed to law enforcement bodies, so that they turn their faces to human rights. The situation in these bodies is a serious problem for me as the Ombudsman. We are supposed to cooperate with law enforcers," said Mr Arutyunyan.

"I think that responsibility for the current situation is on the Prosecutor's Office, which works badly. I'm convinced that this particular state body should be made responsible," the Ombudsman has concluded.
