Moscow hosts roundtable dated to anniversary of war in South Ossetia

On August 4, the Moscow-based Press Centre of the RIA "Novosti" hosted a roundtable on the topic: "First anniversary of the start of barbarous aggression against peaceful people of South Ossetia".

Let us note here one of the presentations, made by Anastasia Suprun, president of the charitable foundation "Children of Russia - Future of the World" from Novosibirsk, dedicated to rendering help to residents of South Ossetia. Ms Suprun noted that the mission of the Foundation, opened in November 2008, is still the only Russian charitable organization present in Tskhinvali. According to her story, the city had lived through a very hard winter, and employees of the mission were literally saving from famine lonely old people, especially Georgians, whose relatives occurred to be outside South Ossetia; and people still need serious help.

In her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Anastasia said that when she arrived for the first time in Tskhinvali in September 2008, she was struck by the mismatch of the official information about distribution of humanitarian help and the real situation: "We interviewed 70 families and found not a single person who had received humanitarian help."

At present, the future of the mission, where volunteers who replaced each other have been working (mainly from Orthodox organizations of Novosibirsk and Moscow), is in question, because some of the sponsors have ceased helping.
