Astrakhan opposition continues protest actions against violations at Mayor's election

Today in the morning, about 50 oppositionists tried to send crackers to Mayor-elect of Astrakhan Sergey Bozhenov, hinting on his soon arrest. The militia would not admit the activists into the mayoralty.

"We came up to the mayoralty with packs of crackers and wanted to pass them over to Bozhenov for making him ready to inevitable imprisonment," Alexander Alymov, head of the youth movement "Reference Point", said in his telephone conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Militiamen cordoned the access to the building and flatly refused to let us in."

Then, Mr Alymov presented his ID of the assistant to the State Duma deputy, according to which they were obliged to let him in. "The militiaman went somewhere to get instructions and then said that he would let me in, but without crackers, as the latter, in his opinion, are the means of propaganda," he said.

According to his story, the action passed "without excesses": there were no provocations on the part of militia and mayoralty employees. The next protest action in Astrakhan will take place on Thursday, October 29.

Also, Alexander Alymov told about the rally, held last Sunday, on October 25. Over 500 local residents came to the action, who protested against violations and crimes admitted by the city electoral commission and mayoralty representatives at elections on October 11.
