Azerbaijani embassy to Russia is dissatisfied with Zhirinovsky's statement on Karabakh

As reported by Elkhan Polukhov, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan, the embassy of Azerbaijan to Russia has sent a note of protest to Russia's MFA in the context of the statement made by the vice-speaker of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky about possible recognition by Moscow of independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Earlier, in his interview to the Latvian newspaper "Neatkarigas Rita Avize" Mr Zhirinovsky said that "if Nagorno-Karabakh itself proclaims its independence, Russia should recognize it."

The Azerbaijani party has expressed its discontent with the vice-speaker's words, having emphasized in its official note that such statements hamper development of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, as the IA "APA" writes.

"The embassy's note expresses a protest against this sort of appeals of the Russian vice-speaker," the "Interfax-Azerbaijan" quotes Mr Polukhov as saying.
