Festival of Buddhist culture on in Rostov-on-Don
On March 19, a festival of Buddhist culture was started in Rostov-on-Don. Its central event is a unique exhibition "Treasures of Tibet", held under the aegis of the international public organization "Heritage of the Himalayas".
As Andrei Avramenko, president of the Rostov Buddhist Centre of the Karma Kagyu School, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the Buddhist culture has been traditional for Russia for many centuries, including the Don River region.
"The exhibition," he said, "will give a chance to Rostov residents to get acquainted with the values and ideals incorporated in deep symbols of the Buddhist fine arts."
"Treasures of Tibet" is a travelling exhibition. It was launched in 2003 and exists through diligence of enthusiasts and support of donors. It has more than 200 rarities: scroll paintings, statues of Buddha and bodhisattvas, tsa-tsa, ritual subjects and musical instruments. For seven years of its work, the exposition has grown considerably, it was seen by tens thousands of persons in more than 30 cities of Russia.
