Deputy accused of pedophilia in Volgograd pleads partially guilty

Yuri Babin, ex-member of Volgograd city council and former teacher of family ethics, suspected of perverting 20 schoolchildren, has partially pleaded guilty but refuses to give evidence.

Yesterday, June 30, the investigation of the criminal case against Babin was completed. He is charged under two articles - "acts of perversion without violence with regard to a person knowingly under sixteen years of age" and "sexual relationship and other action of sexual character with a person under sixteen years of age" of the RF Criminal Code.

According to the investigation data, the ex-deputy victims included children aged eight and older, whom Babkin perverted during outings organized by him. All in all, more than 20 schoolchildren suffered from his actions.

The person accused of pedophilia was detained in October 2009 in his own flat during an attempt to rape a teenager. Video cassettes and compact disks with records of himself and children were found in his house. The former teacher disseminated the records in Internet, reports the "Pervaya Gazeta v Volgograde" newspaper.

Yuri Babkin has partially pleaded guilty but refuses to give evidence. He thinks that he is unfairly accused and recommends the investigation officers to learn history better and cites an example of Ancient Sparta where relations among boys and grown-up men were considered normal, reports the city portal "Rodnoy Gorod" (Native city).
