Participants of a protest action on Tuapse established a Committee in protection of the city
The participants of the protest action held on October, 3, in Tuapse which numbered from five hundred to one thousand people established a Committee in protection of Tuapse. The action lasted about two hours and passed off peacefully. The personnel of law enforcement bodies behaved correctly. No one was detained.
It should be reminded that the action had been organized by "Yabloko" party and the "Ecologic Watch" of North Caucasus. It was devoted to defense of the local residents' ecologic rights in connection with broadening the transit point of mineral fertilizers being planned by "Eurochim" company, also a protest was expressed against dismissal of candidates from the election of the Head of Tuapse district. The action had not been permitted by the local authorities.
The participants' demonstration passed off without any incidents and ended with a short meeting in Gagarin square near the House of culture. Sergey Mitrohin, leader of the All-Russian "Yabloko" political party, Andrey Rudomakha, coordinator of "Ecologic Watch" of North Caucasus, Alexey Dymovsky, ex-major of Novossiysk militia and a number of residents of Tuapse spoke at the meeting.
The participants demanded to disallow start-up of the bulk carrier terminal, hold a referendum on deployment of this enterprise in the center of the city, cancel the election of Head of Tuapse district which had been appointed on October, 10, "Living Kuban" wrote.
After the meeting the most active part of the city's community gathered in a cafe not far from the square. On Mitrohin's proposal, a Committee in protection of Tuapse was formed. The Committee's main task will become struggle against the bulk carrier terminal of "Eurochim". Helena Vikhodsteva was elected Coordinator of the Committee.
Mitrohin himself informed radio "Echo of Moscow" that the Committee would coordinate further protest actions.
