Kati Marton: head of Chechnya interrogated on Estemirova's murder
It was stated, at the meeting of the International Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the leadership of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO), headed by Alexander Bastrykin, that under Natalia Estemirova's murder case the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov was interrogated. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from Kati Marton, a board member of the CPJ.
"I want to note one important fact that we learned during the meeting at the ICPO. We were told that investigators of the ICPO had interrogated Ramzan Kadyrov in the course of the inquiry. However, they noted that they failed to find any direct link between Estemirova's murder and Ramzan Kadyrov," said Ms Marton.
She said that CPJ representatives were satisfied with the results of the visit. "But we'll not calm down until all the 19 murders of Russian journalists that we discussed are solved, including the murders of Natalia Estemirova, Anna Politkovskaya, Yuri Schekochikhin, Pavel Makeev, Vagif Kochetkov, Paul Khlebnikov, Anastasia Baburova and Stanislav Markelov, Magomed Evloev and others," said Kati Marton.
