Margieva asks human rights activists to step in political prisoners' fates in South Osetia

On October, 21, Fatima Margieva, human rights activist from South Osetia, appealed to Russian and international human rights organizations asking them to "help settlement of the situation around the National party of RSO and interfere with the fates of the political prisoners".

In the statement she made she expressed her concern about "legal outrage in the Republic of South Osetia connected with infringement of human rights and flagrant violations of the Constitution".

"Political and criminal prosecution of the persons who protect their rights and those of their families is going on. Today there are political prisoners in the prison of South Osetia, among them my son and a brother of Roland Kelekhsayev, Chairman of the National party of RSO. Some representatives of the opposition have to stay out of RSO fearing for their lives", she says. "The Republic of South Osetia has gone beyond the scope the rule of law, a constitutional overturn has happened and I consider the Parliament of the fifth convocation an illegitimate one".

In her statement Margieva asks the Russian and international human rights organizations to help settlement of the situation around the National party of RSO.

Fatima Margieva' statement was supported by Batratz Dzutsati, Chairman of public movement "Osetia for Democracy" who prepared his own declaration where he pointed out that he had carefully studied all the materials and documents of the case and "arrived at an unambiguous conclusion: the parliamentary elections in RSO held on May, 31, have passed off with violations of the Constitution and constitutional laws of RSO and the fact of a constitutional overturn is quite obvious".

"Caucasian Knot" has already reported that a group of South Osetian oppositional politicians had formerly issued a statement in which it called for holding extraordinary parliamentary elections. In particular, the Council of the oppositional National party considers that the present Parliament of South Osetia is illegitimate for, in the opinion of the oppositionists, the elections in the republic have passed off with serious violations: the oppositional National party headed by Roland Kelekhsayev could not participate in the parliamentary elections of last year because another party under the same name but loyal to the ruling authorities was admitted to the elections.

But according to the President of South Osetia, the politicians suspended from participation in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in South Osetia had been deliberately violating the Constitution.
