Issa Khashagulgov's wife appeals to European Parliament

On May 12, Pyatimat Khashagulgova, a resident of the Ingush city of Kurabulak, whose husband Issa had been detained on suspicion of involvement in the terror act in Vladikavkaz, addressed Heidi Hautala, Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament, asking for "assistance in protecting the rights and freedoms of her husband and family, provided for by international legal acts and the Declaration of Human Rights."

Issa Khashagulgov's advocate and relatives, same as Issa himself, have repeatedly stated that he was innocent.

In particular, the appeal of Pyatimat Khashagulgova to Heidi Hautala says that after Issa's detention, persecution of his family - Pyatimat and children - was launched.

"One day a relative came up to me and asked to immediately hide my children and myself; as instructions were received from the Department for the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania of the Federal Security Bureau (FSB) of the Russian Federation to cruelly execute myself and my children," says the appeal.

It is also reported that all Pyatimat's complaints and applications to state authorities, law enforcement and supervisory bodies remained unattended.

"Until today, Issa has given no evidence; despite all kinds of pressure, he has refused to take responsibility for the crimes he never committed and never heard of. For almost two weeks his lawyer Batyr Akhilgov could not meet him, which gives grounds to conclude that my husband had been pressured and tortured," writes Pyatimat.

Starting from April 22 until now Pyatimat was not given a chance to meet her husband. "In the course of all his detention, we were deprived of the right of correspondence and - the most elementary - of telephone conversations," she wrote.

The press service of the FSB told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they give no comments by phone, while answers to written queries may take time. "You will be contacted by the executive. He also makes requests to all organizations involved in the case, so everything may last long," explained the press service of the FSB.
