Life of Abkhazia explosion victim is out of danger, doctors say

 

The life of Fatuse Bzhikshieva, who was injured by the explosion in Sukhumi, is out of danger, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Republic's Hospital of Sukhumi. According to preliminary information, the power of the bomb, triggered in the car, was equivalent to 200 grams of TNT (trotyl) equivalent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a car blew up in Sukhumi, the capital of Abkhazia. The blast killed Arsen Bzhikshiev, native of Kabardino-Balkaria and a participant of the Georgian-Abkhazian war. His wife, who was with him in the car, was taken to the Republic's Hospital of Sukhumi.

"Currently, the condition of the victim is assessed as of moderate gravity; she is in the neurosurgical ward of the hospital. Bzhikshieva lacerations of her head with a thermal burn, and fragmental face wounds. He wound was primary surgically treated; while the X-ray revealed no bone and skull traumas," said the neurologist Nikolai Magakyan.

According to his story, the victim is in her senses, able to answer questions.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, at about 9:20 a.m. Moscow time, in the Republic's Highway Psou-Inguri, which runs along the Kodori Gorge, a Mercedes-124 car was blown up by a shot from an unidentified directed-action explosive device.

So far, law enforcement authorities make no comment on the incident.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent managed to find out that the killed Arsen Bzhikshiev was a veteran and invalid of the Georgian-Abkhazian war, and an Order of Leon laureate.

According to informed sources, Arsen Bzhikshiev was engaged in some small business. He was selling some wool articles in Abkhazia. The family has three children, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Alexei Bekshokov, the former head of the Union of Abkhazian Volunteers, has expressed his regret over the incident.
