Yerevan to host international film festival of women-directors

The Eighth International Film Festival "KIN" (Woman) will be held on December 1-5 at the State Puppet Theatre of Armenia in Yerevan. 52 films from 16 countries have been selected for participation in the festival and will compete in the following nominations: "Best Film", "Special Award" and "Best Debut".

"The aims of the event are to rethink the role and place of women in the society, cover women's problems by means of movies, form favourable conditions for making films by Armenian women and reveal new names; and hold the cross-national cultural exchange," note the organizers.

For the first time the festival will hold a training session for female directors, which will be run by Debra Zimmerman and Tracy Holder. Apart from the contest programme, they have scheduled a retrospective show of documentaries made by the Lithuanian director Yanina Lapinskaite; while the programme manager of the German Film Festival goEAST Andrea Wink will present selected films that participated in the Students' Film Contest goEAST, the IA "News-Armenia" reports.

The guests of the Yerevan Film Festival will be Debra Zimmerman and Tracy Holder, who represent the American organization "Women Make Films", and filmmakers from Israel and Japan Moran Peled and Chico Yamagami, the PanARMENIAN.Net reports.
