Relatives of those convicted of riots at Makhachkala Airport hope for Kadyrov's help

Relatives of those accused and convicted within the case of riots at Makhachkala Airport intended to ask for help from the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, but were unable to get an appointment with him. At a meeting with the Dagestani Ombudsperson, they wrote a letter to Sergey Melikov (the head of Dagestan) and threatened protests in case of no reaction.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the courts of the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories had begun considering criminal cases initiated on riots in Makhachkala. On December 16, the Novokubansky District Court sentenced six residents of Dagestan to terms of seven to eight years in penal colony.

On December 18, Zapir Alkhasov, the Dagestani Ombudsperson, met relatives of those arrested and convicted under the airport riots case.

"Those present stated that they had repeatedly sent letters to the head of Dagestan, but there was no response," Shamil Khadulaev, the head of the Dagestani Public Oversight Commission (POC), wrote in his Telegram channel.

The above relatives wanted to see Kadyrov, but the administration of the head of Chechnya told them that a meeting with him was impossible.

One of the participants in the meeting with Alkhasov said that he had promised to contact Moscow in connection with their demands, "so that they would pay attention to this case and that they are giving such long terms according to a template." "They are misleading the guys, promising to give a more lenient sentence for admitting guilt, but they disregard all that when sentencing," the website of the "Chernovik" outlet quotes her as saying.

Relatives have stated that if this time no one from the authorities pays attention to their problem, and the accused continue being sentenced to unreasonably long terms, then they will be ready to go out to the square.

Let us remind you that on December 11, courts in the Stavropol Territory sentenced 10 residents of Dagestan to long prison terms within two cases of riots in Makhachkala.

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
