International forum on prevention of genocide opens in Stockholm
The Stockholm International Forum: Preventing Genocide; Threats and Responsibilities is opening in Stockholm today.
Representatives from 60 countries will discuss methods of determining the potential threat of genocide, mass killings and ethnic cleansing.
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan participates in the forum. Adversaries of the forum, in particular, pacifists, hold an alternative conference in Stockholm. They lay strictures on the Swedish Government because representatives of the Palestinians, Chechens and Kurds have not been invited to the forum.
