Residents of Beslan held an action demanding to close the city dump
Local residents of Beslan, North Ossetia, held an action of protest neat the dump where garbage of several years' standing was burning. They demand to move the dump farther away from the residential area of the town.
The action was held on April, 10. The people who gathered near the dump declared that fires had "become chronic events" there. They complained of burning and stifling smell of rot adding that respiratory diseases had become more frequent among the population of the town.
During the action local residents blocked the way to garbage trucks and demanded to remove the dump, STRC "Alania" reports.
No incidents or detentions are reported.
On April, 11, the municipal authorities took measures for liquidation of the sources of fire in the garbage area. Hearths of fire were buried in clay. Head of Pravoberezhny district Ruslan Daurov and Mayor of Beslan Maiyrbek Khubaev assured the people that the garbage area would be removed in the future. The territories fit for this purpose are currently being examined, IA "15th Region" reports.
