Abkhazian Defense Ministry denies information of Georgian media about oppression of Georgians in Abkhazian Army
"People of different nationalities serve in the Abkhazian Armed Forces, and Georgians do to. But no one of them have been oppressed and even more so subjected to torture because of their nationality," reads a press release by the Ministry of Defense issued on February 9. Meanwhile, the ministry does not deny that soldier Manuchar Gergedava made a suicide attempt. Manuchar Gergedava, 1984, is a resident of the Gali district. He was drafted to serve in the Abkhazian Army on 14 November 2003. On 7 February, at about 10 a.m., he made the attempt to do away with himself. Relatives managed to save him.
