Dagestan honours winners of London Olympics

On August 16, medallists of the London Olympic Games arrived in Dagestan. They were greeted by about 1000 fans at the Makhachkala airport. Each winner of the Olympic Games has received from the republic's authorities three million roubles and documents for a land plot.

Natives of Dagestan won at the London Olympic Games 10 awards, 5 of them were the gold medals.

Gold medals went to judokas Mansur Isaev and Tagir Khaibulaev, Djamal Otarsultanov, Sharif Sharifov, wrestlers of freestyle, who represented Azerbaijan, and Natalia Vorobyova.

Elena Isinbaeva, who performed at the Olympic Games both for the Volgograd Region and for Dagestan, won the bronze medal in pole vaulting. The bronze medals also went to Zaur Kuramagomedov, wrestler of Greco-Roman style, and Bilyal Makhov, wrestler of freestyle.

Daniyal Gadjiev, who represented Kazakhstan in Greco-Roman wrestling, and boxer Magomedrasul Madjidov, who represented Azerbaijan, also won bronze medals.

"They are people, from whom thousands of boys will take an example. At present, everyone knows that Dagestan is a sports republic, and success at the Olympic Games once again confirmed that fact," said Magomedsalam Magomedov, the leader of Dagestan, while greeting the Olympic team at the airport.

"If you build a track and field stadium, and it will conform to the standards, I will come here to jump, and we will hold competitions here," Elena Isinbaeva said.

The republic's budget allocated 3 million roubles to each winner of the London Olympic Games, and the winners also received documents for land plots. Bronze medallists are to receive cash certificates.
