A policeman in the town of Volzhsky knocked down a pedestrian and escaped from the scene of the accident

Investigators are carrying out inquiry on the circumstances of a road accident in the town of Volzhsky with the participation of a district police officer who knocked down a pedestrian and escaped from the scene of the crime, Natalia Kunitskaya, representative of Investigative Department of Committee of Inquiry in Volgograd region, reported.

The accident took place in an unregulated pedestrian crossing, Karbyshev street, at 20:00, October, 6.

The policeman driving a "Volkswagen" car knocked down a man aged 26 after which he escaped from the scene of the road accident. The injured man was taken to hospital with leg fracture, RIA "Novosti" reports.

"The driver was identified by his car which the eyewitnesses remembered", Natalia Kunitskaya informed.

The policeman does not deny the fact of the incident. During interrogation he explained that he did not notice the pedestrian because it was dark, "V2.ru" reports.

Inquiry on the fact of the accident is going on and the question of starting criminal proceedings is being settled.
