Builders of Paravan HPP go on strike in Georgia
The construction workers erecting the Paravan Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) in the Samtskhe-Djavakheti Region went on strike demanding better working conditions and higher wages.
The strike began on April 15; and the media reported about it on April 16, saying that there are about 100 strikers in total. Their demands also include special uniform and improved nutrition. They also state that wages were reduced without their knowledge.
Apart from these demands, as the "Georgia Online" reports, the workers want to document their labour relations.
"The site lacks elementary working conditions; we have no special clothes; there are problems with foodstuffs; and the workers, who had been brought by the company from Turkey, receive much more for their work than we do," the "Interfax" quotes one of the strikers.
