Dmitry Sanakoev: Georgia invaded by 23,000 refugees because of August war

In Georgia, the problem of refugees remains unsolved for five years since August 2008. Their number reaches about 23,000 persons; however, the exact number of refugees still has not been calculated. This was reported by Dmitry Sanakoev, the head of the temporary administrative and territorial unit in the territory of the former South-Ossetian Autonomous Region.

"At present, we register those refugees who have not been registered after the war of 2008. This happened for many reasons: someone did not come in due time to the Ministry of Refugees or to our administration. However, we need to know the exact number of the people, who lost in the war their homes and their belongings, to provide them with the most effective assistance," Dmitry Sanakoev has stated in his interview to "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

After the war of 2008, according to the information of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees and accommodation of Georgia, more than 20,000 persons were forced out of South Ossetia to other parts of Georgia. Most of the refugees from South Ossetia are accommodated in compact centres built within three months after the war.
