In Volgograd, during bike show, unidentified persons throw stones at Jewish kindergarten
In Volgograd, law enforcement bodies carry out the investigation into the attack on the kindergarten of the Jewish community of the city. At night on August 24, during the bike show in memory of defenders of Stalingrad, unidentified persons threw stones to the kindergarten.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned of the attack on the Jewish kindergarten "Gan Geula" (Revival) located in Kuznetsov Street in the Krasnooktyabrsky District of Volgograd from Galina Balakhonova, a kindergarten guard, who was on duty that night. Irina Karnakova, the kindergarten principal, emphasizes that Galina Balakhonova has already left her job because of the experienced shock.
According to the report of Yury Dorfman, Chief of the Interdistrict Department of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) "Okhrana" of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Volgograd Region, the internal inspection is carried out on the fact of the incident.
Yael Ioffe, Chairman of the Council of the Volgograd Jewish Community Centre, treats the incident in the kindergarten as an act of vandalism.
"That was an act of vandalism, and it is a fact. Attackers could not be ignorant of the fact that was a child care institution, and it did not matter whether it was Jewish or non-Jewish institution. That was simply an act of hooliganism. Another question is whether the attackers used anti-Semitic slogans. Well, I was not there, and I did not hear that. However, the attackers made no attempts to enter the territory of the kindergarten," Yael Ioffe has stated.
It should be noted that the kindergarten "Gan Geula" was opened 12 years ago. The Volgograd Jewish Community Centre takes an active part in the activities of the kindergarten.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2009, vandals desecrated the foundation stone in the garden of March 8 in Volgograd, which was set in the place where more than 600 Jewish civilians were executed during the period of Nazi occupation of Stalingrad.
