Kolbaya: problem of refugees from Abkhazia remain unsolved 20 years after war
According to information published on the website of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Refugees and Resettlement, at present, in Georgia, there are more than 258,000 IDPs. Of them, more than 140,000 persons came from Abkhazia and more than 20,000 from South Ossetia.
The problem of resettlement of refugees is a priority in Georgia. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Vakhtang Kolbaya, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia in exile.
"Till present, problems of any permanent or temporary accommodation for refugees were not solved and are still unsolved. Hundreds of thousands of families are waiting for getting a roof over their heads," Vakhtang Kolbaya has said.
However, the housing problem is not the only one faced by refugees. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia in exile.
"There is a problem with employment, and this is a problem not only for the refugees, but also for the entire population of Georgia. And third thing is participation of refugees in the social and political processes."
According to the Vakhtang Kolbaya's statement, the only way to resolve the Abkhaz conflict is to start talks.
