Majority deputies for Aslan Abashidze's party ready to abdicate their authorities as parliamentarians
Majority deputies of the Georgian parliament representing the Union of Democratic Revival, led by Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze, declared readiness to abdicate their authorities as parliamentarians and said they were not going to take part in the work of the new Georgian parliament, reported representatives of this political organization.
In such a way, the members of the Union of Democratic Revival express their protest against the results of the 28 March parliamentary elections in Georgia under a proportional representation system.
Six deputies for the Union of Democratic Revival - one from each election district on the territory of the Adjarian autonomy - were elected in the course of the elections for the Georgian parliament under a majority system on 2 November 2003.
Preliminary results of the elections under the proportional representation system show that Aslan Abashidze's party did not break the 7% threshold in the elections.
According to the Central Election Commission's data, the Union of Democratic Revival received only 6.2% of the vote in the 28 March elections.
