In Cherkessk, participants of roundtable claim provisions of Law "On Rehabilitation of Repressed Nations" not executed
Issues, related to the 70th anniversary of the deportation of the Karachay people, have been discussed at the roundtable "Origins of eviction of Karachay people in 1943 and their subsequent rehabilitation" held in Cherkessk. The participants of the event have emphasized the need to remember the tragic story of deportation and to comply with the Law on "Rehabilitation of Repressed Peoples".
On October 24, the meeting of the roundtable was chaired by Salykh Khapchaev, the deputy of the National Assembly of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR). The roundtable was attended by officials from the Government of the KChR, deputies of the National Assembly (Parliament) of the KChR, scientific and creative community, public organizations, political parties, and media.
The report "New Russia and rehabilitation of Karachay people" was delivered by Akhmat Katchiev, a member of the Karachay organization "Karachay Alan Khalk". He drew the audience's attention to the fact that the provisions of the Law "On Rehabilitation of Repressed Nations" that were adopted in the early 1990s by the Russian government have remained mainly not executed.
Let us remind you that in November 2011, the National Assembly of Karachay-Cherkessia formed a republican commission to restore the rights of rehabilitated victims of political repressions.
