North Caucasus marked Easter without accidents
On April 20, Christians celebrated the major religious holiday Easter or Resurrection of the Lord. Easter services were held in the North-Caucasian republics.
In Dagestan, all Orthodox churches held festive Easter services. In the evening of April 19, the Holy Fire was delivered to the republic. On April 20, after the festive service held in the Makhachkala Holy Dormition Cathedral, Bishop Varlaam congratulated all Orthodox Christians on the holiday.
Law enforcers provide security of parishioners. Metal detectors were installed near the entrance to the church, and policemen were on duty round-the-clock.
In Karachay-Cherkessia, the festive events to celebrate Easter were attended by about 23,000 persons. No violations were committed. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Karachay-Cherkessia.
Upon his arrival in Ingushetia, Bishop of Makhachkala and Grozny Varlaam has stressed that this year, Ingushetia celebrates the Easter holiday in a special way. Bishop Varlaam has noted that for the first time, the Holy Fire has been delivered to the Easter service, the official website of Ingushetia reports.
In the capital of Chechnya, the sacred procession and the festive service were held in the Cathedral of Archangel Michael. In addition to local Orthodox Christians, the festive events have been attended by more than thousands of former residents of the region, who at present live in other regions of Russia.
