Khyzyr Begiev killed in Nalchik was not member of armed underground, his relatives assert

Relatives of Khyzyr Begiev, who was killed in Kabardino-Balkaria, claim that he was not a member of the armed underground and that he used to be an active fighter against drug dealers in the republic. The Khyzyr Begiev's family members appeal to human rights defenders for help to reveal the true causes of his death.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to sources from the police of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), on April 18, in the city of Nalchik, Khyzyr Begiev, born in 1978, shelled policemen, who tried to check his ID, and was killed by return fire. According to the sources, the killed man was a member of an illegal armed formation (IAF).

On May 11, Zakhida Tsraeva, the mother of Khyzyr Begiev, and her daughter Marina Begieva appealed to the Chief of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for the KBR and the Prosecutor of the KBR. Besides, they have also filed a complaint to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" and the Kabardino-Balkarian Human Rights Centre. In their complaint, they ask to take control over the progress of the investigation into the murder of Khyzyr Begiev. According to the family members of the killed man, he might be actually murdered because of his active civil position, which was expressed in preventing illicit trade in narcotic drugs by chemist's shops.

Officials from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for the KBR have promised to respond to the complaint filed by Zakhida Tsraeva.
