In KBR, four prisoners make attempt to commit suicide, their relatives assert
In Kabardino-Balkaria, Tamerlan Fargiev, Maxim Kolesnik, Azamat Tanov, and Azamat Khachev, inmates of the penal colony No. 3, have made a suicide attempt to protest against the use of physical violence against them. This was claimed by relatives of the prisoners.
The incident with the suicide attempt occurred on April 30, and it was triggered by the fact that prisoners were beaten by warders of the operative part of the penal colony No. 3 and fighters of special forces. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the relatives of the prisoners.
According to them, when the prisoners cut their veins, they tried to stop the beating and also to attract attention to the situation in the penal colony. The prisoners were rendered medical assistance.
According to the prisoners' relatives, the inmates of the penal colony are subjected to beating about once a month.
Officials from the Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) for the KBR deny the fact of physical abuse of prisoners and promise to bring them to justice for self-mutilation.
