Attempt to blow up opposition office in Kalmykia presented as anti-terrorist exercises
As it has become known from the press release by the Kalmyk Human Rights Center published on April 22, a terrorist act against opposition activists was prepared in the capital of the republic.
On April 13, at about noon, officers of the FSB (Federal Security Service) department in the Republic of Kalmykia detained a certain Nakayev (b.1976) in a hotel situated in the heart of Elista by. A high-capacity explosive assembly was found on him. The hotel room which the terrorist was detained in is just in immediate proximity to the room occupied by the executive committee of the Extraordinary Congress of the People of Kalmykia, which seeks for Kalmyk President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's removal. The bomb was to detonate by means of a remote control device. The bomb timer showed the terrorist had been detained an hour before the explosion.
After activists of the Kalmyk Human Rights Center had demanded comments on the happening from officials of the aforementioned structure, attempts were made to present it as scheduled anti-terrorist exercises.
The republican public have not received any official information on the incident so far.
