In Chechnya, law enforcers investigate deaths of two schoolgirls from Argun

Officials from the Chechen investigating bodies believe the administration of the gymnasium of the Argun city is responsible for the deaths of two schoolgirls of the ninth form who drowned in the river in the Shatoi District of Chechnya. Local residents call on the authorities to carry out the thorough investigation into the incident. They note that the gymnasium, where the deceased schoolgirls studied, is considered to be one of the best educational institutions in the city.

On June 14, two schoolgirls of the ninth form of the gymnasium No. 13 of Argun drowned in Chanty-Argun, a mountain river in the Shatoi Districts. The schoolgirls went into the water, and they were carried away by the river flow. Two hours after the tragedy, their bodies were found several kilometres downstream. The deceased schoolgirls with their classmates were attending the excursion, which was organized by the administration of the educational institution. The criminal case was instituted under Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence, resulting in death of two or more persons).

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by an official from the law enforcement bodies of Chechnya that the gymnasium administration failed to provide adequate measures to ensure the schoolchildren's safety at the excursion.

Residents of mountainous villages of Chechnya note that mountain rivers are very dangerous and crafty. Even a well-trained swimmer can fail to cope with fast-flowing rivers and perish.
