Police fail to respond to complaints about beating of detained Dagestani resident, his advocate asserts

An advocate of Imangazali Magomedov, a resident of the village of Shaumyan of the Kizlyar District of Dagestan, suspected of illegal possession of weapons, has filed a complaint to the head of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). According to the advocate, local investigators and policemen ignore the complaints filed against the facts of beating of her client during his arrest.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Imangazali Magomedov, a resident of the village of Shaumyan, was detained by police on June 2. Elena Denisenko, the detainee's advocate, has learned about the fact that Imangazali Magomedov had been beaten, when she visited her client in the IVS (temporary detention facility) of Kizlyar on June 6. After that, the advocate filed the complaint to the Investigating Department for the Republic of Dagestan of the ICRF.

"A month has passed, since I had filed the complaint. However, until present, I got no notification of the check. All valid terms for consideration of motions and complaints have already expired, even if we take into account the period for mailing," Elena Denisenko has said.

Officials from the Investigating Department for Dagestan have informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the responses to all incoming complaints are being forwarded within the required statutory period. Meanwhile, the officials have failed to present any specific information about the response to the complaint filed by advocate Elena Denisenko.
