"Golden Apricot" contributes to development of Armenian cinema, filmmakers believe

Once again, Yerevan hosts the international festival "Golden Apricot". The launched event has a positive impact on the Armenian cinematography. This opinion has been expressed by Arutyun Khachatryan, a founder of the cinema forum. According to scenario writer Mikael Pogosyan, after the "Golden Apricot" has been launched, the Armenian cinema develops rapidly.

On July 13, Yerevan opened the 11th International Film Festival "Golden Apricot". It will present 70 films from 95 countries within the traditional four contest programmes: feature films, documentaries, the "Armenian Panorama", and the "Apricot Stone" (short films).

According to actor Vigen Stepanyan, the festival "Golden Apricot" has filled the cinematography with taste and responsibility, and it contributes to the creation of authentic art.

Russian film director Vitaly Mansky will present his film "The Book" to the "Armenian Panorama" contest. According to the Russian film director, the film is directly related to Armenia, and therefore it participates in the national programme.

The film tells the audience about the book of prayerful meditations written by St. Gregory of Narek in the ancient Armenia thousand years ago. According to the film director, the film represents a revelation of the human mind in search for the meaning of life.

The festival was opened with the poetic film apologue titled "The Colour of Pomegranates" created by Sergey Paradjanov, a famous Armenian film director. The film is dedicated to Armenian poet Sayat Nova.
