Chechen Prosecutor's Office checks Tangiev's complaint and finds no violations in SIZO
The facts presented in the complaint of Timur Tangiev against the actions of the administration of the SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) in Grozny were not confirmed during the prosecutor's inspection; and the Chechen Prosecutor's Office found no illegal measures applied to the inmate by the staff of the SIZO. This was reported by Tangiev's relatives.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on July 16 Timur Tangiev, a resident of Grozny, made a suicide attempt in the above SIZO-1. It was his third attempt since March 9, when he was placed into the SIZO. According to his advocate, the inmate took this "desperate protest" because of harassments against him, and hoping to once again draw prosecutors' attention to violations committed in the SIZO.
According to Tangiev's mother, law enforcers have changed their tactics of pressing her son. She said that initially the SIZO staff demanded from her son to withdraw his complaint addressed to the Prosecutor of Chechnya. "He refused; and then they put him into the dungeon, where he attempted suicide," said Timur Tangiev's mother, adding that Timur stay in the dungeon undermines his already weak health.
