Azerbaijan: arrested rights defender Aliev has locomotor problems

The results are known of the medical examination of the rights defender Intigam Aliev, arrested in Azerbaijan, whose health deteriorated on October 24 during a court session, where the extension of his arrest was considered. Aliev was diagnosed neck osteochondrosis and protrusion of intervertebral disc, which caused problems with his musculoskeletal system.

His daughter Narmin Kamilsoy, who visited Aliev on October 31 at the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), said that he had serious health problems. According to her version, Aliev complained of severe headaches. The daughter also said that it was cold in the cell, as the heating will be switched on November 15; therefore, her father suffers from cold.

Aliev also complained that his correspondence was censored. As noted by Kamilsoy Aliev cannot reply to reporters' letters and questions that he receives.

The results of Aliev's medical examination suggest that his health needs effective treatment, said his advocate Djavad Djavadov.

The defence intends to put forward new petitions demanding to change Aliev's freedom restriction in order to provide him with high-quality medical care.
