ECtHR takes complaint of rights defender Intigam Aliev to consideration in priority order
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has ruled to consider the complaint lodged by the Azerbaijani rights defender Intigam Aliev in the priority order. The Azerbaijani government is to answer the questions put by the ECtHR before March 25. The defence intends to seek Aliev's release from custody even before the ECtHR's decision.
According to Javad Javadov, another Aliev's advocate, the complaint deals with the violation of Aliev's rights, when he was arrested, as investigators failed to present primary evidence against Aliev.
The Aiev's complaint raises the issue of violating a number of articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), including Articles 5 (liberty and personal immunity) and 18 (limits on using rights restrictions).
According to Javadov, during the defenders' meeting with Aliev in SIZO on December 1, it was decided to stop lodging petitions to the court on changing the freedom restraint measure.
The defender has added that for a long time in relation to Intigam Aliev no investigatory actions were conducted.
Let us remind you that on November 30, Aliev marked his 52nd birthday in custody. On this occasion, many politicians and civil society activists of Azerbaijan congratulated him through the media.
