Chechen writer Arslan Khasavov receives "Debut" Literary Award
The Chechen writer Arslan Khasavov is the winner in the nomination "Essays" of the 15th Independent Literary Award "Debut" for his collection of works "Conquering the Space". The ceremony took place on December 11 in Moscow.
This year, the short list of contenders for the "Debut" Award includes 15 authors.
"I'm happy. I've long strived for this," Arslan Khasavov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent after receiving his award in the shape of a bird statuette.
According to his story, to win this award he represented "his native village and the Chechen Republic" and promised to go on writing about his native Chechnya.
The "Debut" Literary Award was established in 2000 by the International Fund "Generation". The contest covers Russian-language authors aged up to 35. The winner in each nomination will receive a cash prize of one million roubles.
