Case against human rights defender Intigam Aliev sent to Baku court
The investigating authorities of Azerbaijan have sent to court the materials in the case against Intigam Aliev, the head of the "Legal Education Society", who is accused of economic crimes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Intigam Aliev was detained on August 8, 2014. In early August, accounts of his organization were arrested. On December 26, 2014, Intigam Aliev's advocate reported that the investigation had been completed. He has also added that after he examines the indictment the case will be sent to the court.
The indictment has been sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, and it will soon be submitted to the proceedings, the "APA" reports today with reference to Fakhraddin Mekhtiev, the advocate of Intigam Aliev.
Initially, Intigam Aliev was charged with tax evasion, abuse of power resulted in grave consequences, and illegal entrepreneurship. In December 2014, the charges against the human rights defender included more severe article on embezzlement on a large scale, under which Intigam Aliev faces 12 years of imprisonment.
