Abkhazia to have its own monetary unit
Abkhazia introduces its own monetary unit, the foreign minister of this breakaway republic, Sergey Shamba, told journalists on May 23. He did not announce the name of this currency, only noted new banknotes are being printed by one of the largest French companies.
It should be reminded that Georgia has worked out a new concept for the resolution of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict based on the so called Boden's plan. This concept does not stipulate the circulation of different currencies in both the republics, though Abkhazia is considered as a sovereign state within Georgia under this plan.
