Coordinators of "Immortal Regiment" state high interest to action in Southern Russia
With the transition to the federal level, the action "Immortal Regiment," within which people go to holiday parades on May 9 bearing photos of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War, has aroused great interest in Southern Russia, coordinators of the action report.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2014 the marches of the "Immortal Regiment" were held in major cities of Southern Russia, including Nalchik, Makhachkala and Stavropol.
The interregional historical and patriotic movement "Immortal Regiment" appeared in the city of Tomsk, where on May 9, 2012, people took photos of their relatives, who took part in the Great Patriotic War, to the parade with them. As stated in the charter of the movement, its main task is to preserve in each family the personal memory about the generation of the war.
In total, this year's marches of the "Immortal Regiment" will be held in 1120 cities of fifteen countries, said Sergey Lapenkov, the chairman of the board of the movement. So far, he has little information about how the initiative has been perceived in Northern Caucasus.
Residents of the Stavropol Territory plan to take active part in the campaign, said Nadezhda Zarutskaya, the coordinator of the movement in the Stavropol Territory. According to her story, in Stavropol, a passage of a seven-thousand strong column is expected.
About a thousand people will take part in the parade of the "Immortal Regiment" in Derbent, said the coordinator Peri Tayibova.
It is expected that in Nalchik up to a thousand schoolchildren will come out with portraits of their ancestors, and about three hundred adults, said Darya Shomakhova, a representative of the organizing committee of the procession.
North Ossetia will join the "Immortal Regiment" – on May 9, during the military parade in Liberty Square in Vladikavkaz, more than 500 people are going to carry portraits of participants in the war in their hands.
