Sochi residents mark May 9 with marches, laying flowers and action "Immortal Regiment"
Events on the Victory Day were held in all districts of Sochi; and the action "Immortal Regiment" was one of the most popular in recent years, residents say.
The celebrations began at the memorial complex in the Zavokzalny District and continued throughout the day around the city. Pupils of the Sochi musical school played music of the war years in the streets.
Those, who were arriving on that day in Sochi by train, could taste the meals cooked by the field kitchen, where soldiers of one of the Sochi military units gave out buckwheat porridge with stewed meat. Such field kitchens have been deployed today in Sochi parks, mini-parks, in city streets, close to celebratory events.
The participants of celebrations, interviewed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, were critical to the dance performed at the war memorial in Novorossiysk.
The head of the club "Patriot" Vasily Ilyin has treated the dance as "disgrace."
"As part of the concert, it would be appropriate to perform some wartime dance, or a waltz, but erotic dancing was just savagery," said Lydia Bogorodskaya, an employee of a travel company.
The events on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory are held in all districts of the city. Visitors to the Arts Museum can observe, free of charge, a photo exhibition dedicated to the heroism of residents of besieged Leningrad. Municipal movie theatres hold free screening of war movies, said Ruzanna Barsigyan, the head of the culture department of the Sochi Administration.
