Police disperse hunger strikers in Nakhchivan

The Nakhchivan police have dispersed participants in the hunger strike that a group of local opposition activists conducted in the headquarters of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party regional branch. Police forced the activists into cars and conveyed them to their homes.

Six members of the Center for Democratic Development, which unites branches of the country's leading opposition parties in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, went on a hanger strike on May 31 to protest against the pressure put on the opposition by the police. In particular, two oppositionists who participated in the meeting held by the Center to mark Republic Day on May 28 were beaten by police on May 29, which caused the hunger strike.
