Russian general suspected of exploding bridges in Ajaria
Georgia's State Security Ministry does not rule out taking legal action against Russian General Yuri Netkachev who may have been in charge of exploding the bridges in Choloki and Kakuti, according to some report. If there is specific evidence confirming this information, a legal action will be brought against Netkachev, said Georgii Ugulava, Deputy State Security Minister of Georgia.
The Russian general who is already on the retired list arrived in Batumi from Moscow by air on April 20. "We had information about explosions of bridges under Netkachev's direction, but we could not take preemptive measures because this could result in big casualties," Ugulava said.
Evaluating the state of affairs in Ajaria, the deputy state security minister said the situation in Batumi might soon get out of control. "There are a great number of arms in Ajaria and Batumi. We do not rule out confrontation inside illegal armed units there soon," Ugulava said.
