Yamadaev survives 2 attempts on his life
Powerful explosive devices went off twice on the way of the vehicle of Sulim Yamadaev, commander of the Defense Ministry's Vostok ("East") task force. One of the homemade bombs went off in Gudermes, another on the Kavkaz ("Caucasus") federal highway. "Last night... Senior Lieutenant Sulim Yamadaev escorted by a guard vehicle was heading for Gudermes to a meeting of local law enforcement and security commanders. An explosive device went off on Kirov Street on the way of the vehicles, which led to the escort vehicle seriously damaged by fragments of the bomb. Later on, when the meeting was already over and Yamadaev was leaving Gudermes, another bomb exploded on the Kavkaz federal highway. Neither Yamadaev nor the guards from his escort were hurt," the republican Internal Affairs Ministry told us on May 3. The police think the attempt on Yamadaev's life was organized by Chechen gunmen. In both cases the unknown attackers used radio-controlled devices. Law enforcement officers are currently taking measures to identify the organizers and executors of the terrorist acts.
