Advocate asks Russia's SC Chairman to consider cassation against verdict to resident of Chechnya

A cassation complaint against the verdict to Asrudi Musaev, a resident of Chechnya, convicted for complicity in the fraud with maternity capital, has been left without consideration by a Judge of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia. Musaev's advocate asks Vyacheslav Lebedev, the Chairman of the SC of Russia, to reverse the above decision of the SC's Judge, claiming that there are falsifications in the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 32-year-old Asrudi Musaev was sentenced to a year and a half in colony and a fine of 30,000 roubles. On December 23, 2014, the court found him guilty of aiding Serbieva, a resident of Chechnya, who was declared wanted on fraud charges. The advocate of Musaev stated falsification of materials of the case and filed complaints against investigators' actions to the prosecutor's office. On April 15, the defence sent a cassation complaint to the Presidium of the SC of the Chechen Republic.

According to the prosecution, in the period from January to October 2011 Musaev received 5000 roubles for acting as a Serbieva's confidant and trying to convince the holders of maternity capital certificates to sign contract for granting commodity loans for building apartments. On the basis of such contracts, Serbieva could buy construction materials on behalf of certificate holders. In total, the case files describe over 30 such episodes, says the investigator's statement dated July 13, 2013.
