Volgograd: mourning rallies of terror act victims attended by 300 people
The rallies "Beslan-Volgograd: pain and sorrow of entire planet" have been held today at the building of the train station and near the worship cross installed on the site of the terror act in the Krasnoarmeiskiy District of Volgograd. City temples held funeral dirges.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year marks 11 years since the terror act in Beslan; and the city is hosting mourning ceremonies.
On September 1, 2004, militants took 1128 hostages at Beslan School №1. The rescue operation ended on September 3, 2004. The storming killed 334 people, 186 of whom were children.
The mourning rally at the Volgograd railway station began today at 12:30 a.m. Moscow time. However, people began laying flowers at the memorial plaque and bringing paper cranes well before the start of the ceremony.
"Paper cranes symbolize the memory about our beloved ones," Anna Khromchenkova, a resident of the city, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Today is a solidarity day in the fight against terrorism," Anna Krechetova, the chair of the city regional youth volunteer organization "Uchastie" (Involvement), told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "It is a very important day for our city."
The rally heard the statistics of terror acts in Volgograd over the last 20 years. The audience commemorated the casualties with a minute of silence and then laid flowers and wreaths at the memorial plaque, and lit candles. According to organizers, about 300 people took part in today's mourning ceremonies.
