Gigi Ugulava released by Court

In the evening of September 17, the Tbilisi City Court released Gigi Ugulava, the former Mayor of the capital of Georgia, from pre-trial detention. However, the trial in the case of misappropriation of the "Imedi" TV Company will continue.

During the court session, supporters of the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party were standing in front of the building and demanded to execute the decision of the Constitutional Court and release Gigi Ugulava. "Since the Constitutional Court has made the decision, the City Court should also comply with the letter and spirit of the law. It is necessary not only for us, but also for Georgia as a whole, since we are building a democratic society," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Koba Khabazi, a member of the politician board of the UNM.

At 11:00 p.m., it became known that the Court pronounced the decision to release the former Mayor of Tbilisi. The UNM supporters greeted the report at the hall of the court building with applause and shouts: "Gigi! Gigi!"

At the stairs of the City Court, Gigi Ugulava held the first spontaneous press conference. The former Mayor of Tbilisi has declared that in a short time, other political figures from the ranks of the former Georgian leaders will also be released and that the "UNM" Party will win the elections in 2016.
